On Tuesday 16, January 2023, Apple Inc. unveiled the Mac mini desktop and faster versions of its pricier MacBook Pro laptops as its first new products of 2023.
The upgraded M2 Pro and M2 Max chips replace the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors in the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, which were released at the end of 2021. The M2 chip, which made its debut in the MacBook Air and a low-end MacBook Pro last year, sees its first expansion with the new notebooks from Apple.
The new Macs add to a product category that generated $40.2 billion in revenue for the tech giant last year, or more than 10% of its total sales. Later this year, the business intends to add an M2 chip variant to its high-end Mac Pro desktop computer. Apple is developing upgraded MacBook Air models, including a larger model with a 15-inch screen.

Apple’s move away from using Intel Corp. processors inside of its Mac computers is being continued by the chips in the newest models, which provide modest performance gains. The M2 Pro will now have up to 12 main processing cores, which is a performance indicator, as opposed to a maximum of 10.
The memory on the laptops is increased, reaching a maximum of 96 gigabytes on the 16-inch model and 64 gigabytes on the 14-inch model. The previous limit on both was 32 gigabytes. The maximum storage capacity is still 8 terabytes. The 14-inch model’s battery life has gone up to 18 hours from 17 hours, and the 16-inch model’s battery life has gone up to 22 hours from 21 hours.
WiFi 6E, which in some cases can provide faster wireless performance, as well as a more potent HDMI port for driving more sophisticated external displays are added to the new MacBook Pros, according to Apple.
The Mac mini are released more than two years after the previous model and have the same appearance. The M2 chip found in the 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air is also added to the Mac mini, while the M2 Pro model also includes this chip.
The newly updated 14-inch MacBook Pro is priced at $1999, while the 16-inch model remains at $2499. The price of the Mac mini is $599, $100 less than the previous model. Apple stated that all of the new Macs will start shipping on January 24.
Beginning in 2025, Apple plans to add touch screens to the MacBook Pro. With this change, Apple’s high-end laptops would be more competitive with those made by Dell Technologies Inc., Microsoft Corp., and other laptop manufacturers. It will also assist Apple in providing a more consistent software experience across all of its products.
